The X-Terra 305 from Minelab is an overall superb metal detector, with several great features that set it apart from others in its range. However, it is best used by those already familiar with detecting, as one feature it lacks is a graphic target ID. This means that to pick between metals you will need to be aware of the associated numeric identifiers, or become familiar with its multi-tone audio targeting, which plays different tones for different targets.
Nonetheless, this is a great all-purpose machine, with all the features you’d expect. Filtering out background noise couldn’t be easier with its manual ground balance. It also allows custom notching and has a solid pinpoint mode for more efficient digging. Known for its excellent iron discrimination, you’ll also no longer be digging up nails and rusty junk with the X-Terra.
Its concentric search coil also has an impressive 10-inch reach, and unlike other machines the operating frequency is dependent on the coil, meaning you can replace it for different purposes. The standard coil is perfect for all-purpose detecting, though if you want to specialize in gold for example, the ability to fit a more specialized coil is there.
The Minelab X-Terra 305 is very lightweight, with a unique inverted design, where the control box is mounted above the grip. This takes pressure off the wrist, and makes for a comfortable experience if using for an extended period of time. It is also available with a shortened shaft, so children can join in the fun as well Minelab X-Terra 305
Overall our Minelab X-Terra 305 metal detector review : this is a great machine that shows tit’s its for those that want high-end performance, without the high-end price tag.
